Preserving and maintaining back country and wilderness area trails for recreational stock use.
About us
Our members share a passion for maintaining both our trails and our ability to use them. Partnering with the U.S. Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management and Colorado State Parks, we use pack mules and horses to haul materials into the backcountry, making it possible to build bridges and clear underbrush that might otherwise make a path impassable. The dedicated men and women of the Buffalo Peaks Back Country Horsemen believe in preserving the access these animals have to the trails they help to preserve. Based out of Salida, Nathrop, Buena Vista and Leadville, we proudly serve the Pike-San Isabel National Forest, Arkansas Headwaters Recreation Area and surrounding vicinities.
